Workshops
Formans Smokehouse Gallery was proud recently to have the brilliant company of some of the residents of Drapers Foyer in Bethnal Green and the Young@Art group from The Bromley By Bow Centre. We laughed, we talked, we danced, we drank tea, learnt Brazilian performing arts and explored the amazing history and culture of Brazil making some friends along the way. Below we have posted some photos to embarrass our participants and show you what they got up to. I would like to take this chance to credit and say a special thanks to our dance master, Irineu Nogueira, our Capoeira teachers Anna Chilton and Jonny Hyams and voice of contemporary art and Brazilian culture Pier Tosta. Without your expertise what we achieved would not have been possible and our sincere thanks also goes out to those brave residents from Drapers who displayed great enthusiasm, maturity and physical resolve during the exercises.
We seem to have created something of a buzz on the East Side of London with Braziliality. The exhibition has generated a demand to take the workshops further and engage more local residents. The artists at Young@Art developed something of craze in BBBC when inspired by Pier’s talk about recycled forms of art mediums and it’s political concerns with the rate of the Amazon rain forest’s decline and have begun a project to turn disused cardboard into beautifully painted gardens, hurrah for Young@Art we salute you!
